The Peacock Project, an initiative of Sabarmati International Contemporary Arts Festival is designed to act as a collaborative space engaging with the artisanal communities based in Ahmedabad. By engaging with the local knowledge systems of various artisanal groups, this project seeks to highlight the significant role of the various stakeholders who have contributed to the cultural fabric of the city.

In the first edition of SICAFA, we have been very fortunate to have worked with a family of Taziya makers from Vatva village. The form of the peacock itself elicits the feeling of a familiar and homely sight seen on the terraces of Ahmedabad. The monumental peacock that perches atop the entrance of Ahmedabad University is an invitation and of course a manifestation of the glocal vision of Ahmedabad University.
